Hard drive partitions are an essential part of any Windows-based ecosystem, including Windows 10. Nevertheless, they can sometimes be unreasonably made, offering, for example, too much free space on one and two little free space on the other partition, which makes them unpractical for use. Also, you might have too many partitions on your PC, which may be difficult for you to manage.
In other words, partitions may cause issues that, but luckily, they can be easily solved by merging them. However, that usually means that at least one of the partitions must be deleted, before the merge itself. Therefore, before you proceed to this process, make sure that you understood everything and store all your precious data from the partition(s) that should be deleted to the cloud or an external drive in order not to lose them.
How to Merge Partitions in Windows 10
If you are still with us, this is what you need to do in order to merge your partitions.
- The first thing in this process, as already mentioned, should be making a backup of the data that is placed on the partition(s) that should be deleted.
- After that, you need to right-click your “This PC” desktop icon, and in the drop-down menu go to “Manage”.
- Next, select “Disk Management” and find the partition(s) that should be deleted, as well as the ones that should be extended.
- After that, right-click the partition that you want to delete chose “Delete Volume”
and confirm that by pressing “Yes”.
- When you have finished that, go to the partition that you want to extend, right-click on it and select “Extend Volume”.
- Now, the Extend Volume Wizard will appear, and you should just press “Next”.
- In the newly opened window, select the amount of space by which you want to extend your partition and press “Next”.
(Have in mind that the“maximum available space” is the total size of the unallocated space of your drive.) - After that, go to “Finish”
and that is it. Your partitions should now be fully merged and ready for work.
